Houston we have a problem

After graduating from the University of Houston, I joined the family diamond business. I was trained for corporate life - I wasn't prepared for tackling the challenges associated with entrepreneurship. Two years into the business, I realized how isolating working in the small business environment is and how difficult it is to collaborate with young professionals. I looked everywhere for networking opportunities, but all I found were groups centered around motivational speakers, tech-entrepreneurship, and groups that were tryna sell something. That's when I decided that it was time to bring people together on the basis of good business, trust, and inclusivity. During the early stages of the pandemic, I reached out to a few friends and started a small business group in September 2020. The objective was to create a space for young (under 40-ish) folks that lead or work in a traditional small businesses or nonprofits in the Houston Metro as a means to build a community, friendships, network, share knowledge, promote diversity, and to grow professionally.
